by

A Brazilian seamstress, a cook and a self-employed worker are among the signatories of a letter delivered to the main world leaders participating in the COP26 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change), which takes place this week in Glasgow, with suggestions to combat the environmental crisis . President Jair Bolsonaro did not participate in the meeting of international leaders at COP26.

They were drawn to participate in the UN Global Citizens Assembly (United Nations), which selected 100 citizens from 50 countries to think of solutions to help fight the climate crisis.

The three Brazilians chosen were seamstress Izildete Maria de Sousa Botelho, 67, from Uberlândia (MG), cook Joseane Souza, 60, from Recife (PE), and Wanderson Alves Pires, 25, self-employed, resident of the Estrela Dalva occupation in Goiânia (GO).

The draw for participants in the assembly is based on data collected by NASA, the American space agency. The majority of Global Citizen Assembly members earn less than US$10 (R$56 at the current currency rate) a day, half of whom are women. A significant proportion of the migrants are illiterate.

All participants received assistance from experts, who, among other things, provided materials to help understand climate issues.
