At least three dead – two women and one man – and 16 rescued are the so far reports of a shipwreck with refugees and migrants this morning in the area of ​​Thermi in eastern Lesbos.

According to ERT, a fourth body has been found.

Five of the rescued were taken to the hospital with symptoms of hypothermia.

“Since early today, a search and rescue operation under the coordination of the Joint Search and Rescue Center of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard has been underway to locate missing foreigners in the sea area of ​​Provoskida east of Lesvos.
In particular, after the detection of a boat on a rocky point in the above area, investigations were immediately started by the Open Sea Vessel (OPV) LS-EL.AKT., two LS-EL.AKT patrol boats ., a SUPER PUMA helicopter of the P.A. by air, while L.S.-EL.AKT executives operate from land. and levels EL.AS and P.Y.

So far sixteen (16) foreigners have been rescuedwhile three (03) bodies have been recovered.

According to their statement, about forty-one (41) foreigners were on board in a boat, which had started from the Turkish coast. It should be noted that, when locating them, no one of the rescued did not bring life-saving equipment (life jacket). The prevailing weather conditions are unfavorable with north-easterly winds of intensity 6 BF”.
