A meeting on the coordination of the humanitarian corridor that Greece is setting up in order to provide aid to the regions of Turkey and Syria affected by the catastrophic earthquakes, was held on Friday afternoon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was coordinated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andreas Katsaniotis, who has taken on the role of coordinator for the safe and timely transport of essential items gathered by Regions, municipalities, the Church, agencies, etc.
The general secretary of Health Services Ioannis Kotsiopoulos, the general secretary of International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vicky Loizou, the general secretary of Civil Protection Vassilis Papageorgiou and the general secretary of Social Solidarity and Combating Poverty of the Ministry of Labor Giorgos Stamatis participated in the meeting.
The specific government officials will act as a task force to organize, collect and send the humanitarian material.
In its announcement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that the first aid items that are collected include, for example:
- clothing for adults, minors and infants
- blankets
- pharmaceutical materials
- beds
- scenes
- long-life foods
