Stratis Stratigis, former New Democracy MP and lawyer, died today at the age of 90.

“New Democracy sadly bids farewell to the former MP of the party, Stratis Stratigi, who served the party and public life always with integrity and ethics”, says the New Democracy Press Office in a statement of condolence.

“After studying law in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, Stratis Stratigis practiced law in Athens from 1960 to 2012. He served in various positions of responsibility. As secretary general of the Ministry of Commercial Shipping (1974-1975), president of the PPA (1978-1980), secretary general of the then Ministry of Coordination (1980-1981).

From 1985 to 1989, he was a Member of Parliament. From January 1998 until his resignation in July 1999, he served as the first chairman of the Board of the Organizing Committee of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games.
