The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, made it clear again earlier today that the E.U. will continue to support Ukraine and pledged that the defense industry will be supported to meet new needs.

“Friends, allies and partners of Ukraine realized from the beginning how serious the situation is. We will continue to be united at home, but also with the US,” said Mrs. von der Leyen, in the context of the Munich Security Conference, and emphasized that the free world will never accept Vladimir Putin’s violations of international law or his “imperialist plan”. The Russian President “is trampling on international law. The West will never accept tanks being sent to neighboring countries. Every effort must be made so that the world does not suffer from Putin’s war,” he added.

The president of the European Commission also emphasized that Europe should invest more in its defense and in the armaments industry. “As in the pandemic with the pharmaceutical companies, we will now do whatever it takes to speed up production,” he said.
