The Region of Central Macedonia collected emergency items offered by citizens and sent them today to those affected by the earthquake
More than 120 tons of humanitarian aid for the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria, collected by the Region of Central Macedoniawere sent to the affected areas today.
The materials and necessities offered by the residents of all seven Regional Units were gathered at the Regional Services Building in western Thessaloniki, packed and loaded, under the supervision of the regional governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas and with the organization of the Health and Social Solidarity vice-region.
“Solidarity in times of disaster and misery knows no borders. The Region of Central Macedonia and the entire Macedonian society they gave thundering “present” in the effort to support our fellow human beings who found themselves in this very difficult situation”, said Mr. Tzitzikostas, at the same time thanking the thousands of fellow citizens from all over Macedonia, who sent in any way they could food, basic necessities, blankets, even toys for the children of Syria and Turkey.
“We activated all the Region’s services in all of them Regional Units of Central Macedonia to collect the humanitarian aid”, said for her part the deputy governor of Health Melina Dermenzopoulou, who emphasized that a two-day extension had to be given, as the interest in the offer was huge.
According to the regional governor K. Makedonias, if the need arises, a new action to collect humanitarian aid will be organized.
