The judicial authorities in Rhodes issued an arrest warrant against the son of the 75-year-old man who was found dead in his house in the Old Town in June 2022.

Last Friday morning, the officers of the Rhodes Security sub-directorate who have been handling the case for a number of months, had submitted additional evidence to the original case file, which “locked in” the son of 75-year-old Giorgos Karyotis as a suspect in the commission of the crime.

The unfortunate 75-year-old was found on June 14, 2022 before one o’clock in the afternoon, dead inside his house, in the Medieval City of Rhodes, on Irene Street, by a relative.

According to the same information from “Rodiaka”, the 75-year-old was found lying on the floor, his hands were slightly tied behind his back with a kind of string and a piece of rope, also loose, was passed around his neck.

All these elements, as well as others that have emerged both from the thorough investigation of the level of signage at the 75-year-old’s house and also from the statements that had been taken, were used accordingly in order for the police to come to safe conclusions about what exactly happened at his house old man.

The confirmation of the suspicions initially held by the police officers of the Rhodes Security Sub-Directorate handling the case, that it was a criminal act, was given with the conclusion of the forensic report.

More specifically, the autopsy conducted by the Rhodes coroner, Mr. Panagiotis Kotretsos, on the body of the 75-year-old, confirmed what the experienced officers of the Security Sub-Directorate of Rhodes believed from the beginning, that it was a murder by an unknown – until then – perpetrator.

According to information from “Rodiaka”, from the examination of the body of the 75-year-old, it was found that his death was caused either by suffocation (his mouth and nose were blocked from where he was breathing) or by strangulation (as there was a loop of rope around his neck of) or even in a combination of these two cases.

Regarding the time of death of the unfortunate 75-year-old, it is determined the previous day.

This evidence gave the “green” light to intensify the investigations even more, which has continued all this time.

Based on information from “Rodiac” in the target of the prosecuting authorities, all those who had relations with the old man as well as people of his family, friends and relatives were “locked up” and scrutinized.

At the same time, the statements of these people as well as those in the area, the phone calls and messages that the 75-year-old had received or sent in the last days before his death, as well as the visits he received, were evaluated accordingly.

Also, in an attempt to find the perpetrator or perpetrators of the crime, all the evidence that could be obtained from security cameras in the area around the 75-year-old’s house was checked.

An important element that also concerned the police authorities that handled the case, is the fact that the house where the old man was found dead, there was no great disturbance, which means that he or those who entered it knew the place and knew how to move, while it does not indicate a possible burglary intent.
