2021 was a shocking year. To be precise, for many of our fellow human beings it was a catastrophic – Sad year.
The year was marked at the beginning by the invasion of Medea. A rare strong weather phenomenon that literally sank Greece in the snow. Medea was so fierce that it dressed in white even the Acropolis giving one of the most beautiful days in the life of the inhabitants of Athens. Unfortunately, it left behind many problems, leaving almost one million inhabitants of the basin without electricity for almost 15 days.
In March our country celebrated the 200th anniversary of its liberation from the Turkish yoke and while summer was slowly approaching a major collapse in the Isthmus of Corinth I caused huge damage to its infrastructure and it is worth mentioning that it remains closed even today.
The culmination of the tragic events for 2021 came in the heart of summer.
Initially a historic heatwave broke out and literally burned the whole country for almost 10 days while immediately after catastrophic fires burned Attica, Evia, and Peloponnese leaving behind countless areas of burned forest and thousands of homes and businesses completely destroyed.
In the fire of Attica and more specifically in the area of Ippokratio state, the Up Stories team had the misfortune to lose a close friend and member of the volunteer firefighter Vassilis Filotas, father of 2 children and one of the leading drone technicians in Greece.
