EMAK rescuer Nikos Zygouris, who recently participated in the investigations after the earthquake in Turkey, and now rushed to the scene of the accident in Tempi, spoke about the marathon efforts being made.

Speaking to the ERT camera, he described the current situation, noting, however, that it will be difficult to find other survivors.

“The field here is different compared to Turkey and the sizes are obviously different. It’s still very difficult, though… Eight bodies have been recovered from the 8th EMAK. Last was the driver of a train. Operations have stopped and only the crane is trying to retrieve the train engine,” he said.

“The conflict was fierce. Wherever we ventured there were finds. Either bodies or something else. There are places where other bodies may be found. We are doing our duty because families need to pick up their people. Unfortunately” added the EMAK rescuer.

Asked if the search should continue and if there is a possibility of finding people alive under the debris, he replied: “There are points that need further investigation. We will continue the search.”

“From the morphology of the field there are points that need to be investigated. I don’t know if we will finish tomorrow. The fire department is leading the entire investigation. It is a difficult field. The rescuers cannot act without the help of the cranes and that is why the actions stopped there. There will hardly be a survivor, but hope dies last,” he concluded.
