Condemning yesterday was the decision of the Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Volos for a 69-year-old cattle breeder, who was accused of continuous environmental degradation, as he violated the enclosure of a wetland in Lake Karla and let his herd of animals enter for a whole year.

The illegal acts attributed to him are placed on 12 different dates, spanning from 2/28/19 to 2/16/10.

According to the indictment, the 69-year-old breached a fence lock wetland and subsequently entered a protected area with his herd of cattle, while animal waste ended up in Karla.

In his apologythe 69-year-old claimed that the site was abandoned and he did not break the locks himself, but simply that the animals entered the wetland on their own to drink water because he dried up the water where they previously drank.

His words did not convince the court, which found him guilty as well condemned to an 18-month prison sentence suspended for three years and a right of appeal with suspensive force.
