The “Tsalafouti” cheese product was registered in the list of PDO products, as stated in a decision published in Diaugia.

The soft, creamy and delicious tsalafouti – made from goat’s or sheep’s milk – is made mainly in Tzoumerka and Evrytania.

It has a slightly acidic, spicy and pleasantly salty taste. It is similar to Katiki Domokou, galotiri, Chania curd, Sitias Xigalo and anevato.

Specifically, as it is emphasized, among others, in a decision of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, “It accepts the no. prot. 1298/158166/8-6-2022 final request of the informal producer group TSALFOUTI, for registration in the Register of Protected Designations of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) and Guaranteed Traditional Unique Products (TGI) of the EU, of name “TSALAFOUTI”, for a cheese product, as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), within the framework of Regulation (EU) 1151/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of November 21, 2012, on the quality systems of agricultural products and foodstuffs”.
