“The problems on our uninhabited islands can be solved with the new provisions. In the barren full-time job announcements, part-time jobs are coming out and we instituted incentives of 1,800 euros per month in addition to the salary for each doctor who moves,” Health Minister Thanos Pleuris posted on Twitter.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health gives clarifications about the Kos hospital.

Specifically, it states that there are 179 employees, including 35 doctors and 79 nurses.

“Especially for the lack of pathologists, a pathologist has been moved from another nursing structure of the 2nd Ministry of Health to cover the needs, while 2 pathologist positions have also been announced. In the past, the positions had been re-advertised and the announcements had turned out to be fruitless”, he emphasizes.

He adds that in this particular hospital, however, there are also seven general practitioners who can cover the needs. At the same time, especially for the summer, reports the Ministry of Health, an invitation has been made for doctors with an additional fee of 1,800 euros per month in addition to the salary.

“The Ministry of Health, recognizing the staffing problem on our islands, with the latest legislative interventions is taking all the necessary actions to cover all the gaps in our critical islands by providing additional incentives of 1,800 euros to each doctor per month and 1,200 euros to each nurse in addition to the wages they receive for each commute,” he concludes.
