A 4.5-year-old boy and his parents went to the Emergency Department of the Pediatric Clinic of the Hippocrates hospital, in Thessaloniki, at 4 o’clock in the morning today, as he had swallowed a foreign body.
According to information from Voria.gr, after the x-rays and imaging tests, it was found that the child had swallowed a metal dog (!) from a well-known board game that had to be removed immediately, as it was in a rather difficult spot.
After all the necessary tests were done to precisely locate the object, but also after a pediatric ENT assessment, he underwent an esophagoscopy this morning – this is a method of treating acute obstructions of the upper digestive tract in children – under general anesthesia to remove it from the esophagus.
The doctors are satisfied with the successful demanding operation and the immediate removal of the object. The child is in good health and is being treated at the Pediatric Clinic.
Experienced pediatric anesthesiologists, pediatric ENT and pediatric gastroenterologists participated in the operation.
