The complaint about the young cat sparked a wave of reactions on social media, while many have expressed the desire to adopt her if she gets well and give her the love she has been deprived of
His inhumanity and brutality was shown to a stray, female kitten in the Vineyards of Thessaloniki last week by an unconscious man, who kicked the unfortunate animal in the head when it approached him to pet it.
The tragic event occurred early in the morning on Tuesday 4/4. The kitten was found covered in blood in the parking lot of the Filippou stop in Ampelokipis by a passer-by, who took it to the vet and informed the animal welfare. Kleopatra Karafoti, from the animal charity of the municipality of Ampelokipi – Menemeni, describes exclusively to ThessToday.gr the situation in which the unfortunate kitten was found, as well as the great struggle it is giving to keep itself alive.
“The doctor said it’s definitely kicks. His lower jaw is cut. He showed me on video the examination he did on the kitten. His palate is cleft in the middle. They are bottom up kicks so they all opened up in the middle. He has swelling on his head. Now we wait to see if it goes away so he can stabilize and have surgery. As long as there is swelling in the head, surgery cannot be performed. He is given a serum,” he said, adding that the animal was particularly friendly with people and was not afraid to approach them. “The kitten was very cuddly,” she noted.
He is now hospitalized in a clinic in Stavroupoli and his condition is considered stable. Ms. Karafotis notes that he has been left blind, while it cannot yet be established whether he has suffered any brain damage from the severe blow. “Most likely he will live but then he needs major surgery. There is no way his eyes will be saved. It will remain blind. Now he can get up and walk.”
She was called about the incident on Tuesday morning before 09.00. She asked nearby stores for video footage but the spot was not visible from the cameras as they told her. He notes that schools are located nearby and at the time when the incident is estimated to have taken place, teenagers and younger students would have gone to their school, while the police were also informed about the incident.
The complaint about the young cat sparked a wave of reactions on social media, while many have expressed a desire to adopt it if it gets well and they give her the love she was deprived of in contrast to the violence she suffered.
Asked what should be done to make these incidents disappear – a few months earlier the news had come to light about a newborn kitten that was trampled to death in Thessaloniki -, Ms. Karafotis pointed out to ThessToday.gr that everything stipulated by the law should be applied.
“The law must be applied. When prison and a fine are provided, it should be applied exactly. People who do these things are sick. They find pleasure in violence and pain and that says a lot. When an animal comes to give love to someone and he wants to kill it, think how sick this man must be”he notes.
