He resigned a while ago by the judiciary o vice president of the Supreme Court and president of the A1 Department of the supreme court Christos Janerikosfollowing criticism for his public statement harshly criticizing a government order on Kasidiari party.

The vice-president of the Supreme Court, who was going to preside over the A1 Department that will judge the legality of participation in the elections, of all parties, and of the Hellenes party founded by Ilias Kasidiaris, resigned after the reactions as he publicly took a position on the regulation of government, while he himself was going to judge and vote on it.

In particular, Christos Tzanerikos characterized in his statement the regulation of the government that assigned to all the judges of the A1 Department of the Supreme Court the judgment for the Kasidiaris party – and the other parties – as an unprecedented interference in the work of the supreme court, while he stated that the said arrangement was indicative of mistrust and lack of confidence in his person.

The response to his statement came from the Minister of the Interior, Makis Voridis, who emphasized, among other things, that the Parliament legislates and not the judges, while the position of Evangelos Venizelos was harsh, calling on the supreme judge to abstain from his duties and in fact immediately .

After these developments, the presidency of the A1 Department will be assumed by the most senior Areopagite, Mrs. Evdoxia Kiuptsidou, who will preside over the composition of the judges who will judge the legality of the parties’ participation in the upcoming elections and, above all, the electoral fate of the Kasidiaris party .

It should be noted that the president of the Supreme Court, Maria Georgiou, who accepted the resignation of the vice-president, will keep it as there is a one-month deadline by law if the resigned supreme judge wants to withdraw.

However, at the end of June, Christos Janerikos retires.
