The custom of the first Resurrection was held this year in Preveza with hundreds of people flooding the historic center.
For another year, the custom attracted a large number of tourists who chose to spend the Easter holidays in the area.
According to prevezanews.gr, the celebration has been established in recent years and gives the most Easter atmosphere to the historic center of the city.
The custom, with boots, although it was started by the shopkeepers of Shaytan Pazar, the most picturesque alley of the city, its revival extended throughout the historic center, with the cooperation of the shopkeepers’ association and the Municipality.
As soon as the bell of Agios Charalambous joyfully marks the first Resurrection, dozens of clay objects, the boots, break on the pavement, thus sending the message of life against death.
The custom comes from the years of the Turkish rule when, in order to keep the Turks away, the Christians used to throw improvised firecrackers into Shaitan Bazaar (hence the name).
