“I am the one who hit Alkis in the leg” confessed the second of the 12 defendants for the murder of 19-year-old Alkis Kampanos. He is the first to admit that he hit the dead youth as – so far – all the accused have insisted that they did not come into physical contact with him during the deadly fan attack that took place in the early hours of February 1, 2022, in the Harilaou area.

The 21-year-old defendant, whose plea continues for the 27th day of the much-lauded trial before the Thessaloniki Mixed Jury Court, said:

“Faced with all this burden inside the prisons I want and must ask a huge apology to Alki’s family. Time doesn’t turn back unfortunately, I wish I was in Alki’s place. I am the one who hit Alki in the leg. It was a fleeting shadow, which I do not remember well. Watching all this time in court, the last 2-3 weeks, I realized this by listening to all the coroners. It’s hard to remember this whole incident.

When I found out that a child left, I was shocked – that’s the truth. I want Alki’s parents to know the truth. From the first moment I was honest. I just didn’t have it that clear in my mind. I still have my doubts if I did, but in discussion with the lawyers and the coroner-technical advisor I was told that this stab wound fits. I am sure, convinced that it was done by me.”

The blow he confessed to is the one on the femoral artery, which, together with the blows to the head, caused Alki’s death, as stated in the forensic report signed by medical examiner Leda Kovatsis.

His apology is ongoing.
