The Governor-General of Australia David Hurley was accompanied yesterday afternoon by the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias on a visit and tour of the Acropolis rock.

Mr. Kikilias informed D. Hurley about the opening of flights this year from Australia to our country and about the opening of the EOT office in Melbourne where the Greek diaspora is very strong. “We are proud to have managed to open an EOT office in Melbourne and to satisfy the request of the Greek community” said the Minister of Tourism, underlining the ties that connect the two countries and the contribution of travel flows from the island continent to this year’s tourist season in the country us.

Despite the heavy rain, Mr. Kikilias and Hurley were guided throughout archaeological site of the Acropolis with the Governor General of Australia expressing his admiration for the unique architecture and Greek history.

“This is the second time I have visited the Acropolis and it always excites me, as when I was young I wanted to be an archaeologist. Being here fills my heart with happiness, just seeing how magnificent these works are. The whole history meets at this point and it’s wonderful to visit,” said Mr. Hurley, noting that the rainy weather would not deter him from this visit to the sacred rock of the Acropolis.
