The three schoolgirls who were injured in a car accident in Aegina during a school trip were transferred to the “Agia Sophia” Children’s Hospital.
One will undergo surgery to treat hemopneumothorax. This is the student, who suffered a chest injury at the time of the accident. Her condition is good and her parents are near her. The operation involves the placement of a “bilau”, that is, a thoracic drainage tube, to remove the fluids that have accumulated at the site of the injury. It is a common invasive procedure.
Earlier, the girl underwent radiological examination. The other two children are mostly bruised.
The incident happened today, Thursday at 13:00 outside the holy temple of Agios Nektarios when, while a tourist bus was dropping off students of the 5th High School of Chalandrio, the handbrake was “released” by another KTEL bus which eventually fell on top of it.
All three children were initially taken to the island’s Health Center and from there they were transferred to the Agia Sophia Children’s Hospital.
The 40-year-old KTEL driver was arrested and it is being investigated whether the bus driver had parked legally.
