“The student told the museum he ate it because he was hungry,” a museum spokesman said.
Who would have expected that the indulgence that art offers to the public would take on a literal meaning, or even that the forbidden fruit is finally a banana in an art exhibition.
In particular, the visual artist Maurizio Cattelan “blows it and doesn’t get cold” who this past weekend saw the audience literally couldn’t get enough of his artistic greatness after a hungry South Korean student attending his exhibition did not hesitate to grab and eat a banana, part of his artistic creation.
The artwork, called Comedian, was part of Cattelan’s “WE” exhibition.
Displayed at the Leeum Art Museum in Seoul, it was essentially a ripe banana stuck to a wall.
Art student Noh Huyn-soo, from Seoul National University, said he felt disgusted and tore the banana off the wall during his visit to the museum, before devouring it as a snack in front of shocked onlookers.
Then he taped the peel back to the wall.
However, the museum later replaced it with a fresh banana.
“The student told the museum he ate it because he was hungry,” a museum spokesperson told CNN.
“It happened suddenly, so no special action was taken. The artist was informed of the incident, but did not react,” the museum spokesman added.
