More than 500 photography and aircraft enthusiasts they have been shot in front of a runway in the “hunt” for the good photo frame. The deafening noise of the engines a few meters in front of them not only does not disturb but rather excites the fans of aerial photography: Until 7 in the afternoon they do not move an inch from their post. A few meters back, in a shadow under the control tower, a calm female form, a smiling figure patiently watches the aerial activity. Rosalyn Cablewith her peaceful gaze, will respond positively when we ask her to tell us her own story and, above all, how she found herself on a hot day in April 2023 in Greece, inside a military base looking at fighter jets for hours.

“Will you tell us your story?”

“I’m Rosallyn Cable, I’m 79 years old and I live in Sussex, UK. I have come to the days for the photographers of “Iniochos 2023″ because I like to see fighter jets. My favorites are the F-4E Phantom and the Harrier! Both, and especially the second one, I’ll tell you, how they make… an amazing noise”, he comments to APE-MPE. “I’ve been traveling around the world since the mid-80s. Where there are planes for observation, especially war/military ones,” explains the British spotter who has come to Greece to stay “as many days as possible for this purpose”.

Ms. But Cable has another shocking side of her story to share since she didn’t come to Greece alone. “I have come with my son, Andrew. With him I started from the beginning. I travel all the years and make these trips, to see airplanes. A health issue he was diagnosed with when he was young made me decide to always travel with him. I’m not letting him. It’s his hobby. He loves it, I loved it too and I don’t want him to be alone on all these trips…” explains the British spotter and, above all, loving mother with a smile of deep love.

Experiences, travels and new friends

“There in front is my son, taking pictures…”, shows the British mother who does not refuse to convey her opinion about Greece and its Air Force. “We came to Greece last year, you know, again to participate in the first European Phantom Conference that took place in July at the Andravida base. Now let’s be here again!” commented. Together with her son, they have traveled to many air bases in the four corners of the horizon and seek to see something new each time, as well as experience anniversary events, for example, a celebration for a type of aircraft or exercises. “We’ve had a great time, it’s a nice community of spotters and aviation lovers, we’ve made and are making friends and continue to meet people from so many countries, that’s so interesting!” he added.

Through thousands of kilometers of travel, she will bring us some of her most special experiences. One of them he will never forget. “Of the missions my son and I went on that I still remember as special, it was the one we did to the former Soviet Union to see and photograph former USSR aircraft. We did the trip before the fall of the Wall, you know, and it is the most dangerous we have ever done. But on the other hand, I remember the route Moscow – Saint Petersburg which was wonderful. I still remember it and I wish we could do it again!” says the British photographer and flight fan. Will he come to Greece sometime next time? “Here you still have F-4E Phantoms flying and I love them, of course I want to come again with the good…”, he replied with a smile.
