Households that will join the “Photovoltaics on the roof” program announced last week will become largely energy independent, with the addition of the free (subsidized up to 100%) battery and the right choice of the system that fits the consumption profile their.

It is recalled that, according to the terms of the notice, the installation of a battery is mandatory in domestic systems, the cost of which is subsidized at a rate of 90-100%.

The photovoltaic system’s mode of operation aims at maximizing the self-consumption of the energy produced by the photovoltaic system (PV), i.e. the energy autonomy of the household. In particular, according to article 5 of the announcement:

-During the operation of the system (PV with battery) the energy produced by the PV station is primarily channeled to the consumption of the beneficiary. Any excess production is channeled as a priority to the storage system until it is full and secondarily, the available PV energy can be injected into the Grid.

-In periods when the energy produced by the PV station is not sufficient to cover the consumption of the beneficiary, these are primarily covered by discharging the storage system and secondarily by absorbing energy from the Grid.

Thus, the needs of the household are covered in priority by the production of the photovoltaic, then by the battery and the last option is the absorption of energy from the network.

According to indicative examples elaborated by the Association of Photovoltaic Companies and presented at a recent conference (https://helapco.gr/greece-energy-news/ekdilosi-sef-gia-aytokatanalosi-savvato-18-martioy-2023/) :

-A household with an annual consumption of 4,500 kilowatt-hours, with the installation of a 3-kilowatt photovoltaic power and a 5-kilowatt-hour battery, ensures the coverage of more than 90% of its electricity needs (the annual production of the photovoltaic is 1,400 kilowatt-hours per installed kilowatt) . Thus, the benefit with the current data of energy prices and installation costs minus a (indicative) 55% subsidy from the program reaches 23,250 euros over a period of 25 years.

As the Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas, pointed out, “Thousands of households and farmers will gain energy independence, producing and storing their own sustainable energy, with the Rooftop Photovoltaic program. It is our firm decision that the path to the green transition be done with Justice for all”.

Beneficiaries of the “Photovoltaics on the Roof” Program are households and farmers who will be able to install their own small photovoltaic, combined with a storage system (battery). The photovoltaic system subsidy starts at 45% and reaches 75% for households. The corresponding percentages for farmers are 40% – 60%, while the total subsidy of the photovoltaic system with battery can reach up to 16,000 euros for households and 10,000 euros for farmers.

In addition, a special bonus of 10% is provided for people with disabilities, spouses and dependent members of people with disabilities, single-parent, three-child and large-child families.

The application platform https://pvstegi.gov.gr opened last Tuesday and will remain open until the exhaustion of the available resources which are 238 million Euros. The decision to announce the program was published on the same day in the Government Gazette (Government Gazette 2903/Î’/02-05-2023).
