The president of Omonia Kheimarra was arrested on the charge of vote buying, as reported by Albanian media – The ambassador of Greece in Tirana, following the instructions of Nikos Dendias, today visits the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Greek embassy in Tirana is on its way to the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after arrest of the candidate mayor of Heimarra, Fredis Beleris.
The candidate for mayor of Heimarra was arrested late Thursday night (11/5) by police in Albania. According to what was reported by himara.gr shortly before the website “fell”, Edi Rama’s security guards arrested Fredis Beleris “without reason” using methods that refer to a parastatal.
In a video posted on the himara.gr Facebook page, Beleris can be seen chatting on a main street outside a restaurant with his colleagues. At that moment, police officers appear and handcuff him.
Subsequently arrest and his other two partners and take them to a cage.
Beleris was taken shortly after midnight to the premises of the police headquarters in Avlona.
Albanian media reported that the mayoral candidate Heimarras was arrested on her charge vote buying, which is a special criminal and electoral offense in Albania. The Albanian media even report that Beleris was the focus of attacks when as a candidate for mayor he declared that he would work for the “Hellenization of Heimarra”.
Earlier the minority party KEAD had issued a statement against the Albanian prime minister for the polarization of the climate in Heimarra.
According to Omonia sources, Beleris can normally be a candidate, despite his arrest, however if the accusation against him is confirmed then all the votes he gets on Sunday will be cancelled.
In the meantime, the himara.gr website that broadcast the news was down for hours. The website is now working normally.
