The Municipality of Almyros draws the attention of citizens
An unknown person tried to defraud a 47-year-old woman from Almyros Volos by phone, who, according to a publication of e-thessalia.gr, pretended to be an employee at the Almyros Municipality accounting office, who wanted to inform her that he was a beneficiary of the power pass allowance.
The stranger on the other end of the phone line told the 47-year-old that “it is Giannis, secretary of the Municipality” and as mentioned above he called her to inform her that he is a beneficiary of the power pass allowance, asking for taxisnet codes and accountant details.
According to the publication, the 47-year-old suspected that something was wrong and refused to give her accountant’s details and the taxisnet codes and then contacted the Municipality of Almyros, from where they informed her that no employee had contacted her, while she informed and the Police Department of Almyros.
On the occasion of the specific incident, the Municipality of Almyros issued a statement in which it states: “The Municipality of Almyros will never and in any way ask you for your passwords and your personal data, by telephone, email or SMS. We have been notified that unknown persons are calling pretending to be employees of the Municipality of Almyros and requesting access to personal application codes. These are phone scams designed to trick people into providing personal information.”
