Felony prosecution of a 38-year-old coach for sexually abusing an underage athlete
Facing me a 38-year-old rowing coach is in the highest category who was reported for sexual acts against his underage athlete, in Thessaloniki. He was charged with criminal prosecution by a prosecutor and the file was forwarded to a regular investigator before whom he will be called to apologize.
The case had seen the light of day last November, following a lawsuit filed by the parents of the minor at the Thessaloniki First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, describing actions that took place between December 2021 and June 2022, when their daughter was 15 and 16 years old. Following the lawsuit – and after the accused coach was removed from the club where he worked – a preliminary investigation was ordered and its findings evaluated by a prosecutor who ordered criminal prosecution for two felonies and three misdemeanors.
According to information, he is called to account for the offenses of continuous sexual abuse of a minor (by a gymnast) and rape (perpetrated and attempted), as well as for insulting sexual dignity, making gestures and proposals of a sexual nature and causing fear and anxiety (by persistently monitoring and seeking constant contact and repeated visits to the minor’s social environment).
