New drugs that reduce as well as control the side effects in the patient receiving anesthesia in order to undergo surgery are available to anesthesiologists. At the same time, with the help of artificial intelligence, they can predict and thus prevent whether the patient will develop intraoperative hypotension.

In fact, the Department of Anesthesiology of the University Hospital of Patras and the corresponding Department of “Agios Andreas” apply these methods as pioneers. They even presented their results a few days ago at the 25th Panhellenic Congress of Anesthesiology hosted in Corfu.

From the University Hospital of Patras led by the director of the Anesthesiology Department, Grigoris Vogiatzisat the conference they participated and made a series of presentations, while the deputy professor also actively participated in the educational courses Adamantia Arethathe NSS manager Theofanis Vrettosthe curator Anastasia Zotou and specialists of the Clinic.

“Today, the data has changed a lot and we administer anesthesia with great safety,” Mrs. Aretha told us, adding: “A real revolution has taken place in the field of anesthesiology, while at the same time many studies are underway that will lead us to even better results, so that we can even more safely administer anesthesia to our patients”.

Indicatively, Mrs. Aretha describes to us: “For example, the medicinal substance Sugammadex is a revolution. It is a very strong and effective antidote that we administer to patients and prevents serious respiratory complications as well as muscle weakness, which can be caused by some of the administered anesthesia preparations. We also have new supraglottic devices that are safer and reduce intubation complications.”

However, in parallel with all these drugs and devices, as Mrs. Aretha emphasizes, “the training of interns and young doctors has also been greatly strengthened, so that they can cope with the very difficult specialty of anesthesiology”.

In the Anesthesiology Department of “AGIOS ANDREAS” Hospital

The new methods applied at the General State Hospital “Agios Andreas” were presented by the director of Anesthesiology Alexis Triandopoulos and the specialist Vassilis Boviatsis

“Through artificial intelligence that is beginning to be applied in anesthesiology, we can predict intraoperative hypotension before it happens. For example, 20 minutes before the patient’s blood pressure drops in an operating room, there is a possibility of prediction so that we can take the appropriate measures in time.”

The same group presented an experimental model in the use of ultrasound in anesthesiology. “With this method, we manage to have greater success in the infiltrations that we do before the end of the surgery with the use of ultrasound. In this way, our patients do not experience post-operative pain”.

In conclusion, Mr. Triandopoulos emphasizes that the Anesthesiology Department of “Agios Andreas” has been equipped with the most modern machines. “Our commander, Elias Theodoropoulos, has helped us to the maximum extent. I explain he proceeded to purchase four state-of-the-art anesthesia machines for seamless delivery of anesthesia. He also supplied us with anesthesia depth sensors. Most of all we thank him for the purchase of the modern intubation post and video laryngoscope. And I express my thanks because the Anesthesiology department of “Agiou Andreas” has become complete with all the modern technologies that exist internationally and provide maximum safety to our patients”.
