“Citizens’ Register”: It is now simpler to register the deeds of Greeks abroad

by

With a new, simplified and fully digitized procedure, the recording of registration events of Greeks abroad is now applied. From the 1st of January 2022, the employees of the Consular Authorities compile and register the registration events that take place abroad, directly in the information system “Citizens’ Register”. This means that the hitherto very time-consuming process, which took many months, will now be completed directly, without the mediation of other services and in real time.

The new procedure is regulated by the Joint Decision of the Ministers of State and Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis and the Minister of Interior Maki Voridis and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andreas Katsaniotis (Government Gazette B ‘6090 / 22.12.2021). The specific decision was issued in the framework of the National Program for Simplification of Procedures (EPAD) of the General Secretariat for Digital Governance and Simplification of Procedures.

This is a pioneering project that is another step in the implementation of the government’s commitment to faster and more efficient service to Greeks abroad, promoting the image of a state friendly to expatriates. At the same time, it contributes significantly to the reduction of bureaucracy and the modernization of the operation of the Consular Authorities.

The Minister of State and Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis stated: “Digitization and simplification of procedures have an even greater added value for those who do not have the opportunity due to time or distance to come to the service counters. Greeks Abroad belong primarily to this category. Thus, for a few days now, they can declare the registrations with a simpler and digitized process, which is completed in a single step, at the nearest Consular Authority. “Technology is our ally in the coordinated effort we make to bring our fellow citizens living abroad closer to Greece.”

Undersecretary of State for Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy Andreas Katsaniotis said: “The Greek State stands firmly by the side of Hellenes Abroad and, committed to its commitments, makes every effort to meet the needs of the ubiquitous. The direct registration of the registration documents of Greeks abroad in the information system “Citizens’ Register” is a development – a breakthrough in the process followed so far that will further improve the service of our Expatriates and strengthen their ties with the Motherland “.

The General Secretary of Digital Governance and Simplification of Procedures Leonidas Christopoulos stated: “The main goal of the Government is to improve the daily life of Greek citizens, not only in our country, but also abroad. We continue, through the National Program for Simplification of Procedures, to simplify the procedures, to upgrade the quality of the provided public services and to relieve citizens and public services from unnecessary bureaucratic burden. “Every day we regain the trust of the Greeks in the State.”
