State Department to sell F-35 to Greece: Our cooperation strengthens NATO and makes the region safer
The United States’ defense cooperation with Greece is at a historically high level and makes the wider region safer, the State Department noted a few days ago regarding the imminent sale of F-35 fighter jets to our country.
During a routine briefing of diplomatic correspondents, the US State Department spokesman reiterated the long-standing position that the US government does not want to comment on the sale of defense equipment until Congress is formally notified.
However, later responding to a question from the Hellas Journal website, a State Department spokesman stated that “the United States considers Greece an indispensable ally and partner in NATO.
Together, our countries advance our common goals for peace and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Western Balkans, the Black Sea region and beyond. The US-Greece defense relationship is stronger than ever. Our cooperation strengthens NATO and makes the region safer.”
Menendez: Approvals have been given for the F-35s in Greece, so they are coming
Senator Robert Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, expressed the hope that after the elections in Turkey and Greece there will be a different attitude, in favor of peace. Menendez was in New York, a guest of the Chia Federation that honored him with the 3rd “Ionian Medal of Honor”.
Asked by the KYPE whether after the elections in Greece and Turkey the two sides will be able to sit down at the table and resolve their differences under new conditions, Mr. Menendez expressed the hope that “things will go better after the elections. Undoubtedly, the Greek Prime Minister has emphasized that he is willing to meet his Turkish counterpart on the condition that there is mutual respect, peace and security”.
Regarding the sale of the F-35, he said that he has already signed.
“We are in the negotiations between the Hellenic Republic and the (US) Government for the acquisition process, but the approvals have already been given, so they are coming.”
