On Thursday, June 8the prosecution of the district attorney will continue in the highly acclaimed trial being held at the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki for the brutal murder of the 19-year-old Alki Kampanou and the injury of his two friends, after the blind fan incident that “froze” the Panhellenic, in the early hours of February 1, 2022. The marathon process started in the morning and was interrupted in the afternoon, after six hours of argument, with the public prosecutor completes only 1/3, as she said, of her proposal.

In the presence of the parents of the deceased Alki, the prosecutor Kyriaki Kliaba argued that the attack, for which 12 young PAOK fans are accused, was organized and planned down to the last detail, with a common homicidal intention at the expense of all the victims. Adopting the term “unorthodox war” that Alki’s father had used in his testimony to describe the controversial fan episode, the prosecutor spoke of “organized crime”, with the perpetrators acting as “good and disciplined soldiers, driven by passions, fanaticism and hatred”. “If there was any trace of humanity they would have shown mercy or repentance. But they continued until the last fraction of a second, with furious hatred and intent on taking life. It’s enough for them to take revenge for the satisfaction of their “ego”” he said characteristically, speaking of a “silent” attack and “magnificence of brutality”.

The “mind in charge”, the “samurai”, the so-called “chauffeur”

Evaluating every aspect of the case and evaluating all the evidence and witness statements, Ms. Kliaba referred to each of the 12 defendants separately, reaching specific conclusions as to the participation of each of them in the crime.

He characterized as the “mastermind” of the attack the 1st defendant, who was arrested first and was the “key” for the prosecuting authorities to track down the other persons. He had a “leader’s personality” and “experience”, while “he knew how to organize and guide his “soldiers”, the prosecutor said about the specific defendant who allegedly stayed in the car.

He placed at the scene of the killer – attributing participation in the murder of ‘Alkis’ – all the other defendants, except for the 6th and 8th, for whom he said they did not have time to reach the place where the 19-year-old fell dead, due to time, but he added, that their presence was “decisive for the outcome of the “war””.

In particular, for the 10th accused who allegedly wielded the scythe, he said that he acted out of “rage and hatred”, beating “mercilessly” Alkis and the other two victims to take revenge for an earlier incident where he himself was a victim. “He had such a hatred that he nailed the sickle to anyone who came in front of him, like another ‘samurai’, only samurai were brave warriors” pointed out the prosecutor.

As for the 12th defendant, who, apologizing, had said that he was the “taxi driver”, Ms. Kliaba stated that he participated for 37 seconds in the barbaric attack. “He was neither a “driver” nor a spectator, it emerges after certainty that he participated actively and decisively, driven by the same passion and hatred for the eternal opponent (‘Aris)” were the words of the public prosecutor’s office.

“Everyone is to blame for the death of Alkis, depending on their participation”, she added, describing the 12 defendants as “criminal figures”, even though they themselves “tried to present themselves as good guys”. Regarding the wounding of Alki’s close friend, the prosecutor said that he was close to death, stressing that if the fans of Aris had not come “the episode would have ended with two dead”.
