Passenger traffic at the country’s largest airport, “Eleftherios Venizelos”, is moving at “take-off” rates, with moving passengers they amount to 2,538,086 in May.

According to the statistics of “El. Venizelos”, Athens Airport’s passenger traffic during May reached 2,538,086 million passengers, an increase of 23.4% compared to 2022, (a period during which the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on air travel), but also up 11.1% from the pre-pandemic year 2019. Both domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded 2022 levels, by 20.6% and 24.8%, respectively. Compared to 2019, both domestic and international passengers increased by 15.6% and 9.1%, respectively.

Overall, in the first five months of the year, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 9.15 million, up 39.9% compared to 2022, but also up 5.9% compared to 2019. In detail, both domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded 2022 levels, by 29.9% and 45.1%, respectively, while also showing an increase compared to 2019, by 7.9% and 4.9%, respectively.

Flights – 17.4% increase compared to 2022

The number of flights at Athens International Airport during the first five months of 2023 reached 80,878, recording an increase of 17.4% compared to 2022 and 4.1% compared to 2019 levels. Both domestic flights and international flights increased by 10.4% and 23.4%, respectively, compared to 2022, while they also increased compared to 2019, by 8% and 1.3%, respectively.
