A 40-year-old foreign member of a ring of forgery and trafficking of travel documents was arrested, following a police operation of the Immigration Management Department of the Directorate of Foreigners of Attica that took place at midday yesterday (26/6) in Kypseli,

A case was filed against him for forgery, acceptance and distribution of proceeds of crime and possession of passports and travel documents of third parties.

After using information from the above Service in collaboration with Europol, the international activity of a ring of forgery and trading of travel documents of third parties, with the aim of illegally promoting immigrants to various countries of the European Union, was revealed.

How was he acting?

As it turned out, the arrested person, as a key member of the ring, trafficked travel documents of third parties or fakes, using postal services in various European countries.

The circuit allegedly obtained varying amounts of money from its illegal activity from -400- to -1200- euros per travel document, depending on its type and country of origin.

Higher police officers, after a thorough investigation, located the 40-year-old while going to a post office in order to mail an envelope destined for Germany, which contained a German driving license of doubtful authenticity.

What did the investigations find?

Following a search carried out at his home, the following were found and confiscated:

  • -10- identity cards (Greece, Italy, Belgium),
  • -6- driving licenses (Italy, Greece, Germany)
  • -4- residence permits (Italy, France, Spain, Portugal),
  • Algerian passport
  • UV detection device,
  • mobile phone.

The arrested person was taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
