A billion life sentences the 51-year-old AUTH lecturer accused of murdering his 34-year-old wife and her 85-year-old grandmother in Thessaloniki in August 2013 was convicted.

The Mixed Jury Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki judged him unanimously guilty for serial manslaughter and declined to grant mitigating circumstances. The same sentence had been imposed on him in the first instance.

On August 23, 2013, the defendant’s wife breathed her last at the Papanikolaou hospital where she was being treated. A few days ago, her grandmother also died.

From the first moment the 34-year-old’s parents thought it was about murder and for this they proceeded to file a lawsuit. Their suspicions were confirmed by the results of extensive laboratory tests and the exhumation of the body.

He was targeted by the authorities her husband of 34 yearswho denied all charges from the beginning, supporting the version of poisoning from pipes in the couple’s holiday home in Halkidiki.

It is noted that on toxicology tests high concentrations of arsenic were found in the bodies of the grandmother and granddaughter.

The 34-year-old who worked as an administrative employee in the library of the Polytechnic School of AUTH, allegedly gradually poisonedand for a long time still inside the Papanikolaou hospital, where he was hospitalized. The defendant allegedly poisoned his wife and the mother of their minor child even during her hospitalization.

Specifically, according to the indictment was introduced rushed to the Papanikolaou Hospital, with symptoms of muscle weakness. She was transferred to the ICU and after 7 days of hospitalization her health improved and she returned to the Pathology Clinic of the hospital. There she was visited by her husband who is accused of administering arsenic to her.

Male he allegedly also administered a bottle of water from which the grandmother of the deceased drank exclusively, who in August 2013 was admitted to the hospital with acute kidney failure and died shortly afterwards.

The defendant allegedly had an extramarital relationship with one of his students during that period, with whom they even had a child. He has another daughter from his marriage with the 34-year-old.
