To face 49 forest fires, was called Fire Department the last 24 hours from 6pm yesterday, Sunday, until the same time today, Monday.

Most were treated immediately, at their initial stage.

The local investigative offices, as well as units of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.

It is recalled that, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, it is predicted high fire risk (risk category 3) for, Samos, Ikaria, Chios, Psara, islands of Rhodes, Karpathos, Kasos and Crete.

Also, according to the Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena (EDEKF) issued today Monday, July 10, 2023 by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the extensive field of high pressure that covers the coasts of Africa and the Western and Central Mediterranean and is accompanied by very warm air mass gradually expands further east and causes heatwave conditions from Wednesday (12-07-2023) until early next week. This heat wave receives the name CLEON and is included in the Dangerous Weather Phenomena with a duration of at least six days with the hottest days on Friday (14-07-2023) and Saturday (15-07-2023).

The fire department appeals to citizens to be especially careful and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
