For the third night in a row, firefighters, police officers and volunteers battle the flames overnight in order to limit the fires that continue to rage in Megara, Loutraki, Rhodes and Laconia.

The situation is still difficult in Western Attica, Rhodes and Laconia, while the picture in Loutraki has noticeably improved.

Apollon Rhodes is being evacuated

In Rhodes, the front has been raging uncontrollably since yesterday and the situation is still difficult. Ground forces are operating on four fronts in order to contain the fire. Shortly after 20:00 an order was given by the Civil Protection to evacuate the Apollo community. At the same time, the Regional Governor of South Aegean, Giorgos Hatzimarkos and the Mayor of Rhodes, Antonis Kambourakis, request with their urgent request to the General Secretariat of Civil Protection that the Municipal Units of Attavyro, Kameiro and Lindos be declared in a state of emergency.

103 firefighters with 28 vehicles and a pedestrian unit from Samos are trying to extinguish the fire. The contribution of volunteer groups is also important.

The front extends from the Embona area to the village of Salako, which was evacuated earlier and the fire continues south.

In addition, 2 vehicles are sent from Kos and 5 from Piraeus to help with the extinguishing project, which will help with the project from Thursday morning.

Earlier, the settlements of Eleousa, Salakos and Dimylia, as well as the Elafos hotel, in the mountainous mass of Prophet Ilias, were evacuated by order of the Fire Brigade. Also, due to the fire, the archaeological site of Kamiro was evacuated of visitors and workers.

What is clear is that the networks have been badly damaged by the fire and it will take time to repair the problems.

According to the information of the press representative of the Fire Department, the last twenty-four hours 66 fires have occurred most of which were treated directly at their initial stage.

At this time, as Mr. Artopioos said, 5 ambulances, two EKAB rapid response machines are scattered for the transport of people who may need help, while the special disaster medicine department has also been activated.
