Ground forces of the Fire Department in Agios, Corfu, Karystos, Rhodes and Illiki are fighting the flames for one more night.

Yesterday, as announced by the Fire Service, there were 64 new forest fires, with fire services across the country managing a total of 82.

In Rhodes, the press representative of the Fire Department, Deputy Fire Chief Yiannis Artopioos, told APE-MPE, “the front has moved east, towards Malona and Massari, without, however, threatening the settlements for the time being”.

Hundreds of firefighters and volunteers are on the frontlines of the fire and will remain there throughout the night.

Due to the fire, the municipal unit of South Rhodes by decision of the general secretary of Civil Protection was declared in a state of emergency.

In Corfu, forces of the Fire Department are making efforts to stop the front of the fire that broke out yesterday afternoon, with different foci, in the area of ​​Perithia in the north of Corfu.

The fire is burning forest and grassland moving in a southeasterly direction.

So far, the settlements of Santa, Megoula, Porta, Palaia Perithia, Sinies, Viglatouri, Nisaki, Rou, Katavolo, Kentroma, Tritsi, Kokkokylas, Sarakiniatika, Plagia, Kalami, Vlahatika and Kaballeraina have been evacuated, following messages through 112 which were sent to their residents.

According to an announcement by the Coast Guard, an operation to rescue people from the beach of Nisaki in Corfu is underway.

The operation involves 6 floating vessels of the Coast Guard, 7 private vessels of small capacity, 2 private vessels of large capacity and 1 tugboat.

In total, always according to the Coast Guard, a total of 59 people were safely rescued from 1 floating vessel and 2 lanches heading towards the port of Corfu.

Under the care of the general secretariat of Civil Protection, the released persons will be accommodated in a room of the Corfu Port Organization.

At the same time, strong forces of the fire department, approximately 100 firefighters with 35 vehicles, are fighting the flames, in order to limit the fire that broke out yesterday at noon, in the Dervenakia area of ​​Aegialia.

The fire, as Mr. Artophios pointed out to APE-MPE, reached a hill opposite the Bank settlement, heading towards it. For this reason, an order was given to evacuate the village of Bank Achaia with a message via 112 sent to the residents asking them to head towards Akrata. The settlement of Kastro Aegialia was also evacuated.

In addition, two floating vessels of the Coast Guard as well as private vessels are on hand in the Derveni area of ​​the municipality of Aegialia to assist if required.

The fronts are scattered in the three different foci of fires that broke out yesterday at noon in a forest area in Platanisto Karystou Evia.

The areas of Livadi and Kastri Karystos of Evia are being evacuated.

The residents were notified by a message of 112 to urgently leave the above settlements and head towards Karystos.

The message reads: “If you are in Livadi and Kastri areas, evacuate now to Karystos. Forest fire in your area. Follow the instructions of the authorities.”

Ground forces continue to operate in the area, along with self-government machinery. while yesterday, until the last light of the day, aerial means also helped. Due to the fire, the settlements of Livadi, Potami, Pernaraki and Platanistos were evacuated after messages sent via 112 to their residents.

As for the fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in Yiliki, according to the latest information, it is still burning low vegetation in impassable terrain, moving south.

Extreme fire danger – State of alarm in 5 regions

Extreme risk of fire – State of Alert (risk category 5) is predicted today in five regions of the country, while very high risk of fire (risk category 4) in 8 regions, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the general secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr):

Specifically, extreme fire risk – state of alarm (risk category 5) is predicted today:

* in the region of Attica,

* in the region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia),

* in the region of Peloponnese (PE of Argolis, PE of Corinthia, PE of Messinia),

* in the region of Western Greece (PE Ilia), and

* in the South Aegean region (Rhodes).

In addition, a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) exists in the following areas:

* in the North Aegean region (Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region),

* in the South Aegean region (Karpathos PE, Kalymnos PE, Kos PE),

* in the region of Thessaly (PE Larissa, PE Magnesia),

* in the region of Crete,

* in the Peloponnese region (Arkadia Region, Laconia Region),

* in the region of the Ionian Islands (PE Kefalonia, PE Zakynthos),
