Sixty-three forest fires occurred in the last 24 hours (Sunday – Monday), most of which were dealt with immediately at their initial stage, it is stated in an update of the Fire Department, while regarding the fronts of the fires in Rhodes, Corfu, Evia and Dervenaki of Achaia, it is emphasized that multiple flare-ups have occurred.

Regarding the great fire of Rhodes, it is noted that the strong firefighting forces, ground and air, are facing many flare-ups mainly on the eastern side of the island, which during the lunch hours took on dimensions.

For this reason, the inhabitants of the settlements of Gennadi, Vati, Massari, Malonas and Kalathos were notified with a message from 112, so that they could evacuate in a safe direction.

In Corfu, according to the Fire Department, the main flare-ups are being dealt with in the north-east of the island in the areas of Viglatouri, Perithia and Lafki, without so far threatening residential areas.

Regarding the fire raging near the settlements of Platanistos and Potami Evia, the Fire Department reports that there were many flare-ups that created a front of fire in the settlement and for this reason a message was issued by 112 for its evacuation in a safe direction.

There were also revivals in Dervenaki Achaia which, however, as emphasized in the announcement, are being dealt with so far.

At the same time, the fire brigade managed to limit the fires that occurred this afternoon in Agia Triada, Thebes, and in Kontodespoti, Psachnon, Evia.

As pointed out by the Fire Department, the local investigative offices, as well as the Divisions of the Arson Crimes Directorate (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.
