Thirteen migrants were located and rescued off Rhodes this morning.

At the same time, a person accused of migrant trafficking was arrested.

According to the announcement of the Coast Guard, in the morning hours today, patrol vessel L.S. – EL.AKT. of the Port Authority of Rhodes, being on a scheduled patrol, spotted an inflatable boat with a sufficient number of passengers, in the sea area east of Rhodes.

The above boat, which was heading towards the coast of Rhodes, did not respond to the sound signals of the patrol boat LS-EL.AKT. and tried to escape, developing great speed.

A pursuit followed, resulting in the immobilization of the above boat, while the fourteen (14) foreigners (11 men and 03 boys) were safely transported to the marina port of Rhodes.

The Central Port Authority of Rhodes, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, arrested a 37-year-old foreigner from the above as a trafficker, while the vessel in question was seized.
