The mayor of Athens and president of the B40 Network of Balkan Cities, Kostas Bakoyannis, will be in Heimarra on Monday (14/8) to speak at the large rally-demonstration he is organizing on the central pedestrian street of Spilaion at 6 p.m. the expatriate, through the expatriate organization “Omonoia”.

The participants demand the immediate release of the elected mayor of Chemarra Freddy Beleris, so that it is possible for him to be sworn in and assume his duties. The date chosen is not accidental, as the three-month deadline stipulated by the electoral law of the neighboring country for his swearing-in expires.

What the organizers expect is the greater awareness of the international community, so that it can protest the pre-trial detention and the indictment of the elected mayor of Heimarra. “The defense of human rights and democratic principles is a collective exercise and not a unilateral effort”, they point out and thus demand that the elected mayor be sworn in and that his pre-trial detention be ended immediately.

The mayor of Athens, with his presence at the gathering, will convey the message of support to the elected mayor of Heimarra and more broadly to the diaspora, while he will emphasize the need to defend the Rule of Law and the European Authorities, at a time when Albania seeks to become a member of European family.

Especially for the visit of Kostas Bakoyannis tomorrow afternoon to Albania, “Omonoia Heimarras”, in its announcement, emphasizes: “It is our great honor and joy that the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, will participate in this effort with his presence, contributing in practice as a person of the Self-Government, in the respect of democratic institutions. We also want to thank all the municipalities for their support and practical support. They fill us with strength and optimism. We will never forget it.”
