After the increasing number of traffic accidents – often fatal – caused by migrant traffickers in Evros, in their attempt to escape police control, the Public Prosecutor’s Office gave a positive opinion on the placement of experts on Egnatia Street, in order to stop the traffickers’ cars.
“The use as a last resort of mechanical means of causing damage to the tires of the vehicle, to achieve a forced immobilization is considered legal, permissible and, in some cases, mandatory” emphasizes Prosecutor’s Office of Alexandroupolis.
The goal is according to SKAI to block the vehicles of people who smuggle illegal immigrants and where to avoid police checks, they don’t even hesitate to go against the grain in Egnatia causing even a fatal traffic accident.
In the next period, according to the President of the Panhellenic Federation of Border Guards, it is expected to take place relevant education to the Authorities regarding how the specific barriers will be used.
