Our ‘Lord of the Rings’ at World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Indonesiawith Lefteri Petrynia to put on another great performance.
However, due to a small mistake on his way out, Mr Petrounias didn’t manage to get on the podium, taking 5th place with a score of 14,300.
Upon his arrival in Greece, the champion made a wonderful post on social media, emphasizing what really matters to him.
The message of Lefteris Petrounias in detail:
“We came back and were greeted with the biggest and most genuine smiles! I’ve come 5th many times and I’m as comfortable with this position as I am with 1st.
For many years I came 5th, but also 1st if you have heard me talk about my course you will know that.
In the championship it’s all in the game, the exit, the step, the millimeters on the rings can put you up or down from the podium. What matters to me is that regardless of what all the other athletes in the world are doing in my sport, I have consistently been in the rings finals at major events for many years.
It is important for me that my children, Sofia and Lenia see me train hard and above all not to give up no matter how much my body hurts and despite the general difficulties I face.
It is also important to me that all the young and old athletes that I will meet from tomorrow at my gyms know that I gave it my all and that I am here smiling and healthy for the sport I love and for sports in general.
Don’t give up no matter what you do – try harder every day for the goals you set and be there for the people who need you and support you as I will now that I’m back.
