Nara was the capital of Japan 1,300 years ago, long before Kyoto, and is known for its beautiful temples and its magnificent parks.

Among them is the famous Nara Deer Park, where the sweet four-legged animals allow you to pet and feed them.

The deer, sacred to the Shinto religion, roam freely and in recent years have acquired the designation “trick deer” due to their increasingly demanding behavior.

All those who visit the Land of the Rising Sun and want to be in the Deer Park of Nara can travel there with a “Deer Train” since last December!

Inside, the new ‘Deer Train’ is decked out with polka-dotted seats that evoke the fur of ‘tricky deer’, adorable pictures of deer, a floor that looks like it’s covered in grass; even deer-shaped handholds for the rider to hold onto just in case where the positions are occupied.

The artwork is the work of Gemi, a well-known Tokyo-based illustrator who grew up in the area (https://www.instagram.com/p/CvI3sGeMlNs/).

Kintetsu Railways’ specially designed train runs between Nara, which is 45 minutes from Kyoto, and Sannomiya Station in Kobe. Not all the trains that make the route are “deer trains”, so the interested party must be careful to travel to the deers of Nara having entered the corresponding mood during his transition there (https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=TLnWYuGIg1A).
