A fire that broke out earlier in Andros is getting serious as volunteers and firefighters are fighting to keep the flames from reaching the settlement of Gides.

The fire front has been controlled in the area of Agia, however it is raging in Vitali.

In more detail, in the location of Agia Marina towards Vidali, the fire trapped SEDA water carriers.

As reported by En Andro, the volunteer driver was forced to abandon it and flee on foot through smoke and flames.

The water carrier burned down.

It is requested that the fire does not cross the mountain top so that it does not approach the green area of Ano Gavrio and the settlement of Ano Agios Petros.

The fire raging in Andros on an impassable ridge is causing concern, as the prefect of the island, Dimitris Laskaris, told SKAI.

At noon, a message rang out from 112, calling the residents to evacuate from the settlement of Yides to the Port of Gavriou.

According to Mr. Laskaris, traffic has been prohibited in the wider area, which has been evacuated.

The fire was started by lightning that fell in Vidali.

To extinguish it, 2 fire engines and 1 helicopter, 21 firefighters with 7 vehicles and units from Tinos and Syros are trying to extinguish it, while winds of 6 Beaufort are blowing in the area with gusts reaching 9 Beaufort in the field, according to the fire department.

The other fire on the island – which was also caused by lightning – is near the Holy Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi and does not inspire concern.
