The government and its staff are considering two scenarios Ministry of Labour for the “compensation” of the extra 5 hours of work provided for beyond the basic 8 hours in the new labor bill, which was submitted to public consultation.

The Minister of Labor, Adonis Georgiades hosted on his show Giorgos Avtias at SKAI and gave several clarifications to the questions that have arisen, after the announcement of the sweeping changes included in the new labor bill.

As stated by Mr. Georgiadis, the extra 5 hours of work will depend solely on the employee’s availability and the compensation at the insurance level will either be counted in the time to be drafted, or there will be a discount on the contributions. The final decisions will be made in the next period, when the bill will take its final form and be submitted to the Parliament for voting.

The Minister of Labor also referred to pensions, revealing a section that the ministry is preparing, the plan of which will be presented in Thessaloniki International Exhibition. Under the government’s plan, workers applying for a pension will be in contact via skype with their case officer and guided through the process and required documents, saving valuable time and to avoid the suffering of the citizen.

Mr. Georgiadis also pointed out that 10% of reservations to pensioners who will work, will exclusively concern the additional income and will not touch the pension. “The goal is that there is not a single one who pays more,” said the Minister of Labor.

Concerning on the 6th working dayMr. Georgiadis said that it will only be able to exist for the industry, in order to deal with practical operational problems that exist today.

The Labor Minister also emphasized that the performance of pending pensions is proceeding at a very fast pace and that at the end of 2023, the pending cases will have reduced to almost 25,000.
