The population recorded a decrease of 3.1% for the year 2021, compared to 2011, according to the results of the ELSTAT population-household census.

Alongside, a 4.8% increase in households is recordedwith their total number reaching 4,332,447 per territory.
The male population remains smaller than the female population, who represent 51.1% of the total population.
ELSTAT, like every ten years, conducted the Population-Housing Census in order to collect data on the demographic and social characteristics of the population of Greece, but also on the composition of the country’s households and their housing conditions.
As reported, the 2021 census is the first digital census in Greece, which due to the innovative way of collecting its data, through the electronic self-census, allowed the mass participation of the country’s residents despite the difficulties created by the pandemic.
