All the municipalities of Karditsa are on alert in view of the bad weather with heavy rain that is expected to hit the area in the next 24 hours.
In accordance with EMY Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomenaas the weather is expected to worsen from Monday 4-9-2023 to Wednesday 6-9-2023 with heavy rains and storms that will be accompanied by hail and a high frequency of lightning, with increased winds and a noticeable drop in temperature.
Thessaly, Sporades, central and eastern Sterea, northern Evia and the Peloponnese will receive the highest amounts of rain.

For example, the Municipalities of Mouzaki (which was hit in 2020 by the Janos storm, with devastating floods and one woman dead) and Sofadon issued emergency notices to their residents.
By his decision Mayor D. Mouzakiou Mr. Theofani Stathis, the competent Services of the Municipality have been put on alert with the agencies involved in projects and actions to deal with risks from dangerous weather phenomena, based on the planning that has been prepared, regarding problems that may arise.
GOEB and TOEB should proceed immediately:
– in control of irrigation and drainage ditches their competence,
– to removal of temporary door barriers and immediate removal of any debris – transportable materials, rubble etc. and the permanent dams operating under their responsibility to remain open
– the Forestry Departments must proceed with a control of logging residues so that no portable materials are created and in the cleaning of the forest streams under their responsibility.
At the same time, the Municipality of Mouzaki recommends to the citizens to be especially careful, taking care to take self-protection measures against risks arising from the manifestation of intense weather phenomena. Specifically:
STORMS – RAIN – HAIL
–Make sure that the gutters and wells outside their home are not blocked and are working properly.
–Secure items that may be blown away by wind or heavy rain and may cause injury or damage.
– To change their travel schedule in order to avoid the peak of the weather phenomena but also proactively.
-Avoid crossing rivers and streams, on foot or by vehicle, during storms and rainfall, for several hours after the end of their event but also as a precaution.
-Avoid field work and activities in marine and coastal areas during the occurrence of dangerous weather phenomena but also as a precaution (risk of lightning strikes).
– Take shelter immediately in case of hail. Take shelter in a building or car and do not leave the safe area until they are sure the storm has passed. Hail can be very dangerous for animals too.
– To follow the instructions of the local authorities, such as Traffic, Fire, Civil Protection, etc.
-To follow the instructions of Warning Message 112, if it is sent to mobile phones.
At the same time, the Civil Protection office and its staff are on alert Municipality of Sofadon.
Citizens, and especially farmers, should be careful, ensuring that all necessary measures are taken for risks arising from the occurrence of severe weather phenomena.
In particular, they are requested to proceed immediately in the destruction of any projecting embankments for irrigation purposes, to avoid flooding.
All citizens are also invited such as:
1) Make sure that the gutters of their properties are working properly,
2) Isolate portable materials,
4) Avoid outdoor work during the phenomena
5) Limit unnecessary movements
5) They faithfully apply the instructions of the competent bodies

LIGHTNING
In areas with intense lightning activity:
If you are at home:
– Do not hold electrical devices or the telephone because the lightning can pass through the wires. Disconnect the TV sets from the antenna and the power supply.
– Avoid touching plumbing pipes (kitchen, bathroom) as they are good conductors of electricity.
If you are in the car:
– Park it on the side of the road and away from trees that might fall on it.
– Stay inside and turn on your stop warning lights (emergency lights) until the storm clears.
– Close the windows and do not touch metal objects.
– Avoid flooded roads.
If you are outdoors:
– Take refuge in a building or car or sit on the ground immediately without lying down.
– Take shelter under solid branches of low trees in case you are in a forest.
– Never take shelter under a tall tree in an open area.
– Avoid low lands for the risk of flooding.
– Do not stand next to pylons, power lines, telephone lines and fences.
– Do not approach metal objects (e.g. cars, bicycles, camping equipment, etc.).
– Stay away from rivers, lakes or other bodies of water.
If you are in the sea, get out immediately.
If you’re isolated on a flat surface and feel your hair stand on end (signaling that lightning is about to strike), sit deep with your head between your legs (to minimize your body surface area and contact with the ground ) by throwing the metal objects you have on you.
