The case that the death of the British policewoman in Corfu was due to adulterated alcoholauthorities are investigating, according to a report in the Sun newspaper.

The 22-year-old police officer was found dead with a head injury on the first day of her vacation in Kavos, Corfu.

She decided to stay out Friday night while her colleague returned to their hotel. But the officer, who served with Surrey Police, was later found dead near a high street by a passer-by after sustaining head injuries from falling several metres.

The authorities in Corfu are investigating now if the policewoman had consumed adulterated alcoholl hours after her arrival on the island.

According to the Sun, Corfu’s chief medical officer, who initially examined the young British woman, told the paper that he found alcohol on her breath. Giannis Aivatidis said he died “just a few hours” after arriving in the area and added that “there are questions about what kind of alcohol he consumed. If it was adulterated and she was so drunk because of the methanol in the drinks she consumed?’ The doctor says that the solution to the riddle will be given by the toxicology tests.

The island’s authorities announced on Sunday after raids on Kavos that 28 bars would be closed after they were found to be serving adulterated alcohol as well as customers’ leftover drinks.

Kavos has long been a favorite with young Brits who make up the largest number of visitors the island attracts each year.

The coroner said Monday’s autopsy revealed the Briton fell from a height of several meters. Aivatidis added: “The findings include fractures to the chest, stomach and a small rupture of the spleen. However, death resulted from head injury.

Aivatidis told the newspaper that while the findings rule out criminal activity, it is not clear if the police officer was with friends at the time of her “accidental death. He added that “I think he may have confused the building he was staying in and may have fallen trying to enter. What remains unclear and is now part of the police investigation is whether she was abandoned by friends after the fall.”

The police officer’s stepfather is expected to arrive in Corfu for the repatriation of his stepdaughter’s body this week.

On Saturday, Surrey Police said: “Yesterday we were sadly informed of the sudden death of an officer whilst on holiday in Corfu, Greece. We are working to support both their family and her colleagues here during this extremely difficult time.”
