There is no end to the tragedy for thousands of people in the region of Thessaly, who were affected by the bad weather Daniel, at the same time that one 24 hours after the passing of the deadly weather phenomenon, the level of the Pinios remains at three meters above the alarm limit (in 9 meters high with a limit of 6 meters) and the areas on the outskirts of the city of Larissa, are delivered one after the other to the waters.

The battle will be fought for the second night in a row and after the three grueling 24 hours that the unprecedented storm lasted, on two fronts:

1) To keep the flow of water the dikes that are constantly being built around the overflowing Pinios and

2) To release the people who are in danger, both in the areas around Larissa, where the river water reaches, and in the other areas of the Thessalian plain.

The operation is being carried out on several fronts and is focused on the level of the river, which started to fall since Saturday morning, but remains so high that more and more areas are being flooded.

Since the early afternoon, the Civil Protection put at least 35 villages and areas in Thessaly on standby for evacuation. Before 9 pm, the first evacuation orders were given, while during the night and depending on the evolution of the phenomenon, further decisions will be made.

Message from 112 to evacuate Eleftherios and Alexandrini

Civil Protection ordered the evacuation of the first areas – out of 35 – that had been put on alert.

Shortly before 8 pm, a message was sent from 112 to the residents of Eleftheriou, in Thessaly, who are asked to move to the city of Larissa.

Five minutes later, a 112 message was sent to the residents of Alexandrini, asking them to evacuate to Omolio.

Successive messages from 112 for readiness in 35 areas

Message 112 was sent to dozens of areas of Thessaly on Saturday afternoon by the Civil Protection, as the level of Pineio remains at very high levels and the waters are flowing uncontrollably into the surrounding areas.

Initially, the residents of Kato Rapsani, Itea, Tempi, Bonni, Makrychori and Evangelismos received a message to be ready to evacuate due to flooding.

A few minutes later a 112 message was sent to the Mesagala and Stomio areas, but also to Anagennisi, Melia, Modesto, Prodromos, Glavki, Platykambos, Eleftherio, Dimitra, Neochori, Namata, Kastri, Kato Amygdali, Alexandrini, Paleopyrgos, Omolio, Loutro, Kouloura .

An evacuation message from 112 was sent a little while ago to the residents of Omorfochorio of Killeler, with an order to head towards Platykambos of Larissa due to intense flooding.

At the same time, the dams on the banks of the Pinios – the level of which reached 10 meters last night – are being strengthened, while the evacuation of residents from the flooded western suburbs of Larissa and the village of Piniada continues.
