Aristea Pantazopoulou died at the age of 67. In the fires of 2007, she and her husband had tried to save their property
Aristea Pantazopoulou is no longer with us… No matter what, for 16 whole years she was between life and death, no matter what, the fate of life did not deal with her as it should have. Nevertheless, with great strength of soul and with the ally of her two daughters and their families, she managed to defeat death. Until yesterday…
Aristea Pantazopoulou, who “died” at the age of 67 in the great and deadly fires of 2007, had tried to save together with her husband, their property, their livestock facilities, located in the area between Artemis and Smyrna.
The fire caught up with them and both she and her life partner suffered serious burns, as a result of which they were hospitalized in nursing institutions and since then they have been trying to deal with all their problems with strength of soul.
Aristea Pantazopoulou was hospitalized for a long time at Errikos Dunan and for another three years at the special rehabilitation department at Olympion in Patras.
She was – together with her husband – the last survivors of the deadly wildfires of 2007 and she was fighting her own battle all this time, always having by her side her beloved daughters, Konstantina and Panagiota, who took care of her, looked after her and had managed to have her with them.
Their struggle and effort in the area of Zacharos where they live was enormous, since Aristea Pantazopoulou was in a waking coma, while her husband still faces serious health problems. It was a fight for dignity, since as long as he was alive, he struggled with the burns, which often recurred, without the slightest help, either from the state or from any other body. However, for her and her people, her survival all this time was a great victory.
Despite the suffering and problems that followed her in 16-year nightmare course after the firesAristea Pantazopoulou, whose health had worsened in the last few days and she expired yesterday, was a dynamic woman, especially beloved and took great care of her family and her home.
Her funeral will take place this afternoon at 5:30 following her own wish in Artemisa, in her mother’s village. There, the residents will say their last goodbyes to her, who will also remember their own nightmare from the fires of 2007.
