With the cooperation of the Ministries of Citizen Protection and Foreign Affairs, Mobile Units for Receiving Passport Applications from Greek citizens, who live in remote areas abroad, are being created.

In this context, and with the aim of deepening the cooperation for the further upgrading of consular services provided to Greeks everywhere, Mr. Oikonomou and Mr. Kotsiras had a meeting today at the Ministry of Citizen Protection.

For the first time, the Greek State is introducing as a possibility the institution of Mobile Units for the receipt of supporting documents for the issuance of passports to Greek citizens located in remote areas, either in the countries of accreditation of our Embassies or in the consular district of our Consular Authorities.

The Mobile Units will be staffed by employees of the relevant consular Authority, with the appropriate equipment. The dispatch of the Mobile Units will take place following the recommendation of the head of the relevant Consular Authority and with the approval of the Central Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while informing the competent Service of the Ministry of Citizen Protection.

Mr. Economou stated: “The institution of Mobile Units for the receipt of supporting documents for the issuance of passports facilitates our compatriots who live abroad, in remote areas, facilitating their service and upgrading the level of services provided by the Greek state. Expatriate Hellenism is at the center of our policies with the introduction of practices that make their lives easier.”

For his part, Mr. Kotsiras stated: “The central goal of our policies is to serve Greeks abroad, even in the most remote areas. With the creation of a special section on gov.gr for Greeks abroad, we are launching another measure to improve consular services to expatriates. We thus prove in practice that we are working for a state that is modern and friendly to every Greek citizen, wherever he is.”

At the meeting of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Giorgos Kotsiras, with the Minister of Citizen Protection, Mr. Yiannis Oikonomou, ways of utilizing digital technology were also explored for the further improvement of consular services and the faster service of Greeks abroad.
