The contract for the supply of 250 new electric buses, which will circulate on its roads Athens and Thessaloniki until the end of April, signed, today Tuesday 3/9, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, with the Chief Executive Officer Europe of “YUTONG BUS CO. LTD”, Jack Li, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for Transport, Christina Alexopoulos, the Secretary General of Transport, Yiannis Xifaras and the company’s Account Manager Europe, Frances Fan.

“His commitment Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to substantially improve the daily life of citizens in the two largest urban centers of the country, is fulfilled by the supply of the first 250 new state-of-the-art, electric city vehicles, 12 meters long. With the launch of the first electric buses in the two cities, sustainable urban mobility is promoted, energy efficiency is ensured and the reduction of the environmental footprint of the fleet is ensured, while the passenger public will continue to be provided with affordable transportation, with a clearly higher quality of service” it is pointed out in announcement of the Ministry.

The contract also provides for the supply of independent fixed slow charging chargers, which will be placed in the train stations of Attica and Thessaloniki, as well as seven (7) mobile units (accumulator-quick charger systems), with appropriate configuration and equipment for mobile service electric busesin case of need for on-site charging.

The total contractual price amounts to 110,825,000 euros, plus VAT, while during the period of guaranteed operation, the contractor guarantees good maintenance, repair of damage and operation of the object of supply.

The signing of the relevant contract, following an open, international tender, is the first step in the overall planning of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which provides in total the supply of 1,300 new buses anti-pollution technology for the fleets of the transport operators of Athens and Thessaloniki, until the end of the four-year period. Strengthening and modernizing the public transport fleet is a key priority of the government to improve the quality of life of citizens.

The draft of the contract, the decision of the Court of Auditors, as well as all the necessary documents were submitted to the Parliament, while the competent Standing Committee on Production and Trade was informed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for the Transportation, Christina Alexopoulou.

It is noted that the special invitation to the Contractor to sign the Contract was approved on Monday, September 26 by the minister, with a deadline of fifteen (15) days.
